# Research competitor keywords, pages, and backlink opportunities

> Use HyperGSC competitor and backlink tools to compare provider observations, find content research leads, and understand plan and coverage limits.

Competitor research can reveal topics and pages worth investigating. HyperGSC combines your own Search Console observations with available third-party research tools.

Your Search Console connection only reveals properties you enabled. Competitor reports use provider data; they do not grant access to a competitor's private Search Console account.

## Ask your AI assistant

```text theme={null}
Use HyperGSC to research these competitor domains for my site:
competitor-one.example
competitor-two.example
Check current capabilities and quota first.
Review available domain overviews, top pages, and keyword gaps.
Keep provider estimates separate from my Search Console observations.
Recommend a small set of topics to investigate, with sources,
coverage limits, and a reason each topic fits my audience.
```

Replace the example domains with actual competitors serving a comparable audience and market.

## Compare relevant competitors

Use similar markets and intent. A large general website can have impressive aggregate estimates without being a useful comparison for a focused product.

`competitor_domain_overview`, `competitor_top_pages`, and `competitor_keyword_gap` require Pro or Max and draw from the applicable shared research allowance. Check current availability and avoid repeating expensive requests without a reason.

For promising pages, read the content before proposing a competing article. Identify the audience need and the distinct value your own page could provide.

## Find referring-domain leads

Backlink research requires Max. `backlink_gap` compares one target with one or two competitors, using bounded samples of up to 100 referring domains per domain request.

A result means the provider observed a referring domain in a competitor sample and did not observe it in the target sample. It does not prove your site has never received a link from that domain.

The request consumes one backlinks unit per dispatched domain request, including dispatched failures. Ask the assistant to check remaining usage before starting.

## Turn findings into research actions

Request the evidence, supporting competitor, source, coverage, and a plausible next action for each lead. Review relevance and the actual linking page before deciding whether outreach would be appropriate.

This workflow prepares research. It does not contact publishers, purchase links, or guarantee rankings.
